Box is one of the most popular enterprise cloud-based storage providers on the market. Now, with Screenly’s Zapier integration, it’s possible for thousands of companies to more easily manage their digital signage content through Box. It’s now easier than ever for non-technical users to participate in their company’s digital signage content strategy - all they need to do is drag and drop content into a Box folder. Next, that content is displayed on real digital signs in just moments.
In the post below, we’ll walk you through how to use Screenly’s Zapier integration and Box to make your company’s digital signage workflow more simple than ever.
Step 1: Set up your Screenly account
The first step is to log in to your Screenly account. If you do not have a Screenly account, you can get one with our free trial. Within your Screenly account, set up your first screen. Click the Screens tab on the left side menu. Next, click the + New Screen button on the top right. In the new page that loads, select the Screenly Anywhere option. Open anywhere.screenly.io on your smart TV or browser and enter the PIN code. Give your screen a name, and to add your screen, click Add.
Next, you need to create a playlist. Click the Playlists tab on the left side menu. Then click the + New Playlist option on the top right. In the new screen that loads, give the new playlist a name. Then, in the Plays On input field, select the new screen you just added (or the name of the screen you intend to use) and select Save. Next, select Save again on the bottom right.
Great! Your Screenly account is now ready to receive content from your Box account.
Step 2: Get started with your Zapier account
The next step is to log in to your Zapier account. If you don’t have a Zapier account, there are several paid options as well as free trial options. Once you log in, click the + Create button on the top left. In the new drop-down menu, click Zaps. To get started, now click the purple + Create button on the top right. Select New Zap.
Step 3: Set the Box trigger for your Zap
Now, we need to connect your Box account and set up the Trigger that initiates the Zap process. Select the Trigger icon on the Zap dashboard. Next, search for and select the Box app. For the Trigger event, choose New File. In the Account field, you will have to log in and authenticate your Box account. When that is complete, click the purple Continue button.
In the Configure stage, select the folder in your Box account where you plan to add digital signage content. For the Share input field, you don’t have to select anything. Click the purple Continue button again. Then, click the purple Test trigger button. If the test goes through successfully, you’re all set! It’s time to move on to setting up the Action.
Step 4: Set the Screenly Action for your Zap
The next step is to click the Action icon. In the popup that loads, search for and select Screenly. On the right side, select Complete Workflow for the Action event.
Next, in the Account input, you’ll need to authenticate your Screenly account. To do so, click the Settings tab on your Screenly dashboard. Then, click Security in the sub-menu of the new page that loads. Lastly, click Show on the Token row and name and save your token key. You can then paste your token key in the Zapier popup modal to authenticate your account.
In the Configure section, complete the File URL field using the File option from the Box drop-down options. For the Asset Title field, use the Name option from the Box drop-down options. Next, select the Duration you want the asset to show for with each appearance. Next, click the Existing Playlist input section and select the playlist you created in Step 1. In the Screen input section, select the screen you created in Step 1 or any other active screen(s) that you wish to use. Next, click Test step to test the process. After a successful test, you should see the Box file in the selected playlist inside your Screenly account. That file should then play on any assigned screens on the next sync.
After a successful test, click the purple Publish button. You are now ready to go! That’s it!
