Display the weather channel on Screenly’s digital sign using MeteoTV from MeteoBlue

Meteoblue is a weather service provider that offers detailed and accurate weather information. It provides weather forecasts, current conditions, and other meteorological data for locations around the world. Meteoblue utilizes advanced forecasting models and data sources to deliver precise weather predictions, making it valuable for various applications, including agriculture, energy, outdoor activities, and general weather monitoring.

Users can access Meteoblue’s services through their website or integrate their weather data into applications, providing a comprehensive and reliable resource for weather-related insights.

MeteoTV is a weather channel service for digital signage provided by meteoblue. In this tutorial, I’ll explain how to display meteoTV on Screenly’s digital sign.

Getting the meteoTV URL

To set up meteoTV on Screenly’s digital sign, you’ll have to get the URL for it. Log in to your meteoblue account. If you don’t have an account, you can create one here.

After logging in to your meteoblue account, click on “Widget” from the left sub-menu, then click on “meteoTV”.

Scroll down on the meteoTV features page and click on the “Create a new meteoTV” button.

Uncheck the custom slide option.

Proceed to type in the name you want for your meteoTV, select the duration per forecast slide, and select the slides you would like to be part of your meteoTV weather channel, then click on the submit button. The MeteoTV widget will display each forecast slide for the duration that you indicate here. Take note of the set duration per slide, as you will need it to set the duration for meteoTV in your Screenly playlist (covered later in this tutorial). For example, if you select all 4 forecast slides and set the duration to 15 seconds, then the total duration for your MeteoTV widget will be 60 seconds.

After creating your meteoTV, scroll down to the “Your meteoTVs” section and right-click on “Show” beside the meteoTV you would like to display and copy the link address.

Now that you have the URL for your weather channel, you can add it as content to your Screenly account.

Setting up your Screenly digital sign

To set up your digital sign with Screenly, first purchase a digital signage player. A digital signage player is a small physical device that renders content to your TV or monitor. Screenly offers the Screenly Player and Screenly Player Max. You can then pair your digital signage player and associated screen to your online Screenly account.

The next step is to log in to your Screenly account here. If you do not have a Screenly account, register for a 14-day free trial.

After logging in to your Screenly account, click on the “New” button on the top right of your screen. Then, click on the “Content” tab in the drop-down menu.

Next, click the URL tab in the popup modal and paste the meteoTV URL you copied into the “Enter URL link” input field. Be sure to click “Finish” at the bottom right after you successfully add the URL.

Edit the meteoTV content title by clicking on the input field below the “Title” on your screen. Be sure to click the “Save” button on the bottom right. In this case, I’ve named the meteoTV content “MeteoTV - London” for easy identification.

In the new “Add Content to Playlist” popup, find your meteoTV content and click the “+” button next to the file. Then, click the “Done” button below.
