What is Mixpanel?

Mixpanel is a tool used by companies to track and analyze user behavior on their website or mobile app. It allows businesses to monitor specific user actions, such as clicks, views, and purchases, and to use this data to make informed decisions about product development, marketing, and user experience. Essentially, Mixpanel helps companies understand what their users are doing, and how they can improve their product or service by making analytics-backed decisions to better meet their users’ needs.

Setting up a digital sign

To set up a digital sign, users will need a screen, a digital signage player, and digital signage software. The screen can be any TV or monitor that accepts HDMI input. Ideally, the screen has a 16:9 aspect ratio and can display content in at least 1080p Full HD resolution.

A digital signage player is a small, physical device that connects to the digital signage screen via an HDMI cord. The digital signage player renders content to the digital sign screen, similar to how a DVD player renders a movie to a home TV.

Users will also need digital signage software. Digital signage software allows users to edit the content that displays on their digital signs from anywhere with an internet connection. Users can add, remove, or reorder, images, videos, and public URLs from the comfort of their PCs.

Adding your public Mixpanel dashboard URL to your digital sign

Once you have your digital sign up and running, the next step is to add your public Mixpanel dashboard URL as content on your digital signage software account. Of course, the steps vary depending on what digital signage software you are using. To learn how to add your public Mixpanel dashboard URL to your online Screenly account, please follow the steps below:

The first thing you need to do is to get the public share URL for the board you would like to display from your Mixpanel account. To do so, log in to your Mixpanel account and open the board you would like to display on your digital sign. When building out your dashboards, you should keep the target resolution in mind. Most TVs are running 1920x1080px, so this is probably the resolution for which you want to optimize.

After opening the dashboard, click on “Share” at the top right of the dashboard to open the dashboard sharing settings pop-up modal.

From the pop-up modal, toggle the “Make Board Public” option on and click on “Copy URL” from the bottom left of the pop-up modal to copy the dashboard URL to your clipboard. If you are having any trouble getting your Mixpanel public dashboard, read Mixpanel’s article on public dashboards here.

Next, click the URL tab in the popup modal and paste the public URL into the “Enter URL link” input field. Be sure to click “Finish” on the bottom right after you successfully add the URL.

With the above steps completed, you can now add this asset to a playlist. To add your content to a playlist, click the “Playlist” tab from the left-hand menu. If you wish to add a new playlist, click the “+ New Playlist” button on the top right of the new screen that loads. To edit the new playlist or a previously existing playlist, click on the name of the playlist you wish to edit from the list of playlists.

Within the playlist, click the “+” icon in the Content section. From there, you will see a popup that will allow you to add the Mixpanel dashboard to the playlist from your content collection.
